Rich importer Henry Courtney is murdered and the famous DeNormand necklace is found stolen. The false testimony of Joseph Rand and Hobbs puts Jim O'Brien in danger of being hanged. Martham, the widow of Henry Courtney and ex-lover Jim, is convinced he is not guilty. She promises corrupt lawyer Roger Lanning the necklace - which Jim does not have - if he can arrange Jim's escape.
