Mikey.

Give it another 5, max 10 years. Now the 90s are still a bit icky. Vague fluo rave and such, good maybe for some bad fun. A bit like how people looked at the 80s 10 years ago. You could mainly laugh at it somewhat ashamedly, but serious approval was not allowed then.

But it's coming back. The rise of R&B, Britpop, Benelux dance to hardcore. And great movies like Ghost in the Shell and Pi, like they were only made in the 90s. And cult of course. Genre cult like this Mikey, a movie I used to think was pretty cool, but mainly borrowed its status and this classic.

Luckily we have to wait at least 5 years for that, because it's painful to see how bad this movie is. Terrible acting, I don't think they even hired a cinematographer, crappy soundtrack, stupid plot. And Mikey of course ... a guy who doesn't pose any threat, even if he wants to.

It's almost impossible to sit through this junk. A boring monstrosity, a TV movie par excellence, floating on a few untalented B-stars of yesteryear. Typical 90s production line, fortunately we can still find it unashamedly bad.

0.5*

Another reason not to have children.

Despite the occasional cringe-worthy dialogue and lame acting, I still enjoyed myself with little Mikey.

With its diversity of murder methods, it was still an exciting and entertaining watch.

Also nice to see John Diehl from Miami Vice and Ashley Lawrence from Hellraiser again.

Dennis the menace, but in the superlative. Even psychopaths were once children and early learned is old done, something like that? A nice watch and has that typical 90s suburb vibe that you find a thousand times over in Hollywood.

Not a cozy family movie, a horror for some, but actually a thriller about a psychopathic 9-year-old who starts killing when something gets in his way. He tries to be somewhat differentiated with different killing techniques. Sometimes it all goes very easily.

They tried to put some humor in it, especially Mikey himself who comes out of the corner wittily. Icy and ironic when he rewatches his filmed murders. Quite simple all, but quite entertaining. Despite the creepy thought of course, it remains tame on the horror level.
