Darkest Night plot

On December 25, 2003, a Filipino family gathers in an abandoned house in the Sagada Mountains for a family reunion. However, the festivities are disrupted by a series of bizarre, supernatural and deadly events. Cut off from civilization and shrouded in darkness, the group is challenged by natural forces that disable all modern technology. One by one, the relatives die or disappear in a gruesome manner.

An amateurish, chaotic, and uncontrolled mess that, admittedly, received a budget for production, something director Noel Tan largely wastes. Darkest Night is utterly confusing, with a constant, annoying red filter used to visually create a power outage. Ugly filmed and theatrically acted, this uninspiring film, after an entertaining first fifteen minutes (during which we can still follow everything), leaves the viewer mostly guessing as to what exactly is going on. It's certainly not threatening, because after the whole thing is over, you'll undoubtedly forget what exactly is causing such chaos.
