Book Chon Bang Hyang plot

Sungjoon, a film science teacher at a provincial university, leaves for Seoul to visit a friend who lives near Bukchon. When his friend doesn't answer his calls, Sungjoon begins to wander through Bukchoon. He runs into an actress he knows from back in the day. The two talk for a while, but both continue on their way. He leaves for Insadong, and starts drinking on his own. Some film students ask Sungjoon, who used to be a director, to accompany them. He gets drunk and leaves for his ex-girlfriend's house. The next day, however, Sungjoon is still roaming the streets of Bukchon. Finally, he meets his friend and they leave for a bar. They are joined by a female professor, an acquaintance of his friend.

The trailer is quite misleading. It was reminiscent of a "50s movie" at times. And not just because of the color scheme, by the way.

The beginning is dull, but not bad. I thought the humor was decent, and actually quite unusual compared to the films I've seen so far. The combination of scenes is particularly unusual. Some scenes started off calm and very neutral, but then suddenly exploded into typical humor. It was actually quite funny.

If the women were given a larger role, things would become more interesting. The scenes aren't particularly atmospheric, sometimes even a bit flat, but the events and actions are more active. That lack of atmosphere also had something unique...

Many scenes initially raise expectations, but later fall flat. I did, however, find the characters engaging and especially likable to watch.

Ultimately, not a bad film, but it's certainly worth mentioning. Refreshing, in my opinion. Not always entertaining, but a few scenes definitely stand out. The soundtrack is also very nice, though misleading.
