David Bailey, Four Beats to the Bar and No Cheating plot
David Bailey, the super cool and super talented fashion photographer on whom Michelangelo Antonioni based his now classic 1966 film Blow-up starring David Hemmings, has passed seventy years. He is still active as a photographer, both in the fashion world and in art photography. Director Jérôme De Missolz was allowed to get pretty close. We see Bailey in his house, with his wife and children, and talking with friends. We also witness the emergence of a new photography project about his birthplace, the East End. Bailey emerges as an artist who is averse to pretension and fussing about his art. His admirers also speak, including his ex-wife Catherine Deneuve. No, Bailey never learned a word of French during that marriage. It typifies him: a diamond in the rough, even at seventy.
