Across the Great Divide plot

The year is 1876: two children, Holly, aged 12, and Jason, aged eight, are left alone in the wilderness after their grandfather dies. The children decide to claim what they are entitled to through an inheritance: namely a piece of land in Salem. In order to do that, they must first make a journey through the Rocky Mountains. Along the way, they meet Zack, a con man and gambler. The kids don't approve of what Zack is doing, but he is their only hope of surviving the journey.
