A Bag of Hammers plot

"A con is easy. Family is hard."

The two best friends Ben (Jason Ritter) and Alan (Jake Sandvig) are both misfits who don't want to grow up. For example, at funerals they use a trick to steal cars from the grieving visitors. When the abandoned child Kelsey (Chandler Canterbury) crosses their path, their maturity is put to the test: at first, Kelsey seems like a good addition to Ben and Alan's crooks...

There is no reason to ignore this film, apart from a few details it is not standard junk and the talented Chandler Canterbury acts excellently for his age.
Although A Bag of Hammers does contain comedy elements, I saw it more as a light drama. I didn't immediately expect this depth, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I did find the ending a bit messy and out of place, it was all a bit too forced *they live happily ever after* material that didn't fit the tone of this film at all.
A Bag of Hammers could easily have gotten a 4 with a less sweet ending, but a 3.5 is of course far from bad! Definitely an above-average snack and recommended.

Positively surprised by this film. Partly because of the low rating here, but also because apart from Rebecca Hall the actors were unknown to me.

If you expect pure comedy I understand that this film can be disappointing, because it is also a drama. I also thought the acting of Jason Ritter and Rebecca Hall in particular was excellent.

Not a high flyer, but a great snack.
