170 Hz plot

170 Hz is about two deaf teenagers Nick and Evy who experience love together for the first time. Because Evy's parents disapprove of their relationship, they decide to flee. The wreck of the submarine where they are hiding is the paradoxical metaphor for the so-called freedom that befalls them. In the submarine, the influence of Nick's past becomes apparent and Evy slowly begins to realize that her freedom is an illusion.

Special debut. Where in a film like The Tribe the deafness of the lead roles mainly remained a gimmick, in this film it is already done a lot more organically. Van Ginkel also dares to go for an atmosphere that is much more poetic and reliant on atmosphere than many other Dutch films. Too much drana where the film doesn't need it makes it just short of the 4 stars.

I think it's a very nice movie! Artistic, special, lots of atmosphere and a fascinating story. I like the acting, I like the fairly short playing time and the deafness of the two protagonists gives it something even more special. Liked to see! 4*

A film that is definitely above average. A film about a young deaf couple who are in love. Because they are both deaf, there is hardly any spoken in the film. Everything goes in deaf language. (Luckily there are subtitles)

And that's what makes the film special. Furthermore, it is all very nicely designed with beautiful colors and lighting. There are also several special and experimental other scenes in the film. And finally, the location scout has done its best. The only real flaw of the film is the story itself. That is very straight forward and finally has an unsatisfactory ending. If the story had been as special as the rest of the film, this would have been a really great film. But that's not it now.
