Learning from Light: The Vision of I.M. Pei plot
Culture, nature and light. These are the elements that form the basis of this documentary about the vision of one of the most important architects in the world; IM Pei and his latest creation: the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar. As Pei prepares for his assignment, he discovers that the essence of much Islamic art lies in simple geometric shapes that are accentuated by the sunlight. To show how Pei's museum fits into the tradition of Islamic architecture, the makers of the documentary travel to the Alhambra and Cordoba in Spain, as well as Cairo in Egypt. In interviews, the master himself sheds further light on the design and construction process of the museum in Doha, in which sketches, architectural impressions and models serve as illustrations.
