Clearly a propaganda film for the British Navy, this fine storybook is full of heroic sea heroes with stiff upper lips - and carefully shaved, unless they disguise themselves as Spaniards. You expect Shakespeare quotes at any moment, also from the Germans who, as is proper, simply speak English with a throaty accent. Very gut, Herr Kapitän. Both parties look piously upwards when there is a solemn moment, and there are quite a few of them.

Quite a lot of images of original ships from that time, but the action scenes are mostly to scale and in a swimming pool. Still quite well made, considering the circumstances of the time, but maybe there was just a bit more space then than later in the war when it became a bit more serious.

As a film for now actually only suitable for the real nerds and geeks of the subject, for a normal audience it is a bit too far from what we are used to in terms of entertainment. Still nice that something like this can still be found, it gives a nice picture of the time.
