Bad scenario.

The annoying thing about this old ghost film is that the story never really gets going. It's obvious from miles away, and the acting is frequently overdone. Probably the most annoying thing is the weak dialogue, which is part of the shoddy screenplay.

Moderate.

A decent plot in itself, half thriller, half ghost story, and although neither the director nor the cast ever rises above B-grade, the film remains captivating to the very end, in my opinion. The identity of ghost Patrick is, as planned, the big mystery here, but what I found far more implausible (or actually, simply incomprehensible) is why Jean didn't throw out her husband, who is not only an alcoholic but also a freeloader, a womanizer, a money-grabber, a crank, a thief, a liar, and just a general jerk, much sooner. And Tony Wright does a good job of that – I don't know if he's a good actor (I can't recall ever seeing him in another film either), but he does have the right unsympathetic quality here. It's also remarkable that there's no mincing of the fact that David and Valerie are sleeping together; We even get an extended post-coital scene, complete with a shared cigarette before Patrick goes and wreaks havoc as punishment.. And wouldn't Valerie realize that maybe it's not such a good idea to team up with a wife-killer? Oh well, let me not overthink it. It's a nice ending to the film, though.
