Have I really seen so much crap in the meantime that I still enjoyed myself reasonably well? The first film was definitely way too long and had a lot more cringe-worthy scenes than this sequel. Okay, it's definitely not a good film and the lack of any kind of budget really works against the film, but I still laughed quite a bit with the wooden dialogues and a clearly confused Dolph (not only in character, but also about the whole film itself).

Unfortunately, the film focuses far too much on deadly serious dialogues and too little on the over the top action that made the first film so appealing. The environments are also so dull and uninteresting that boredom quickly sets in with yet another dull tree formation. Not to mention that disastrous dragon. Still, it could have been a lot worse, the people I watched it with at least shouted that it was one of the most disastrous films they have ever seen, which seems a gross exaggeration to me.

A reasonable action/drama/adventure/fantasy movie...

Good story...

Bad acting...

Well-known actors Dolph Lundgren and Lochlyn Munro ...

Beautiful HD quality widescreen...

Great background sound

(Dolby Digital)...

Too fast camera movement...

Not a top movie!

It is of course special that a film like In the Name of the King gets a sequel, but with director Uwe Boll at the helm this is of course not entirely surprising. The end result, however, is not at the level of the first film (something that is equally unsurprising with this cheap B-material) and seems rushed and sloppy. Dolph Lundgren plays a somewhat bland action hero and the attempts at humor come to nothing. Boll regularly attempts to increase the scale, but this often involves poorly designed computer effects and the cut-and-paste work during the action scenes also makes an unclear impression. The somewhat clumsy content and the high pace still provide a certain amount of entertainment, but otherwise this is a hastily put together project with a lack of film passion.
