The Sunset Limited plot

"Nothing is ever black or white."

Set in a New York rental apartment, the story focuses on two very different men. The deeply religious black ex-con (Samuel L. Jackson) thwarts the suicide attempt of an antisocial white professor (Tommy Lee Jones) who tried to throw himself in front of the oncoming subway train 'The Sunset Limited'. While one man tries to connect on a rational, spiritual and emotional level, the other remains steadfast in his hard-earned despair. Locked up in a philosophical debate, both men defend their personal credo and try to convince the other of it.

I read the book when I heard it had been made into a movie. Then saw the movie. Thought it was interesting, but never really exciting.

BTW: the movie is really a direct copy of the book. When you read the book you will see that this is in fact a long monologue. Exactly like the movie. The book is also seen more as a play in my opinion.

In fact, a little bit of everything is covered in this film. Very strong dialogues in this film.

I like action violence and blockbuster movies as much as the next guy, but this movie is a breath of fresh air and of course 2 of the best actors at work here, back and forth. 4 stars!
