Aging caretaker Darby O'Gill is overpowered by a fallen arrival man who is also after his daughter. When the caretaker wants to catch a horse, he falls into the well where the little folk of Irish legends live. Their king grants him three wishes, and if his daughter falls seriously ill, only the dwarves can help him.

Good film about an older man who, as a supervisor, is told that he has to retire. An imaginative story that as a whole resembles a fairy tale. And although the special effects are outdated, they can still get by with it.

It's a strange image, Sean Connery singing romantic tunes to an Irish beauty in a 1950s Disney movie. Darby is based on Irish folklore and more specifically on the mythical Leprechauns, little dwarfs who grant wishes and protect their wealth. Darby in the film is an old janitor who manages to capture their king until he grants him three wishes. But he has to be careful, because a fourth wish irrevocably cancels the three previous ones. The old man has to choose between wealth and his daughter's future.
Found this movie quite dated, although all the Disney elements are there : romance, songs, fantasy and a moral. The effects with the dwarfs also looked quite successful for that time. This will never be a favorite for me, but I'm glad I saw it.
