Lotus plot

"Loneliness Connects"

One afternoon, one night and the next morning in a big city. A big city where characters live at odds with each other. Anonymously. Introvert. Not knowing of each other's existence, living in a busy society. For example, Ben, a happy family man with an Antillean wife and three children, has been living with the secret that he is gay for years.

Fine Dutch mosaic film. Mosaic films always have something... Just like this Lotus shot in Rotterdam... with a few strong observations from the contemporary lives of some residents. Although things often remain subtle. The film focuses on everyday circumstances... from a family man who tries to hide his homosexual feelings from his family, to an autistic boy, with Jack Wouterse playing a strong role as a father here... to a handicapped young man who is about to leave his life. does in the institution... Yes, otherwise not really.

Countless beautiful images of Rotterdam and a rather chilly atmosphere... The stories still manage to stay solid and the Dutch overacting fortunately stays out. Well acted, well constructed and the dialogues are certainly doable. Great roles by Jack Wouterse, Raymond Thiry, Gaite Janssen... a pity about Georgina Verbaan.

3.5*

This was the last straw for me. I don't watch Dutch drama films anymore after this. What a boring idea. All 1 for 1 bad.

First, nothing happens at all. Really it's about nothing and is sleep-inducing drowsy.

2nd, it's super messy. Nice idea to film 5 families, but there are better films in which it is put down better. This was a real mess.

Thirdly, you are missing a lot of information. You are just thrown into their daily lives and taken out again. You don't know what their past is, you don't know what happened, so you miss a lot of background info in every "house".

Finally, you don't just know nothing about their past; you don't know anything about the future or how things will go. This movie has an open ending, which I really dislike.

Still, he gets 1 star for the Lotus cookies with coffee in the beginning of the movie? ?

Ambitious mosaic film with five storylines about lost souls in Rotterdam and a cast to lick your fingers off. Petra [Monic Hendrickx] yearns for loving contact with her mother [Edda Barends], whom she helps in the last phase of his life, but loses sight of her daughter [Gaite Jansen] who also yearns for contact; Misja [Birgit Schuurman] and Sadik [Nasrdin Dchar] no longer know how to reach each other emotionally, so that their relationship threatens to break down; Johan [Jack Wouterse] and Ineke [Frieda Pittoors] are worried about the future of their adult autistic son [Joris Smit], now that they are getting older themselves; Ben [Raymond Thiry] feels alienated from his family and seeks refuge in sexual contact with Guus [Bruno Vanden Broecke]; and Mike [Chris Zegers] has to come to terms with the fact that he will never be able to walk again. Great acting makes up for a lot, but the storylines are depressing and developed too superficially. Can someone explain to me what Georgina Verbaan's character has to do with Zekers?
