Decision Before Dawn plot

"A woman's kiss . . . A lighted cigarette - Each had Its meaning! An exciting and realistic story of war . . . of German Prisoners Sent Back Behind Their Own Lines as Agents of the Allies!"

In 1944, the Second World War is approaching its final phase: Germany is devastated and its army weakened, but does not want to give up yet. The Allies have driven the Germans back beyond the Rhine, but can only guess about the remaining fighting power and the plans of the German troops. To gather this crucial information, the Americans send two German prisoners across the border to spy. The assignment involves many risks as the Gestapo has devised a virtually watertight system to expose spies. Nor can anyone predict whether the two inmates, Happy and Tiger, will keep to the agreement.

The most striking thing about this film is the story, which is about two German prisoners of war who collaborate with the Americans towards the end of the war. An unusual fact in my opinion, which is otherwise poorly elaborated. Anyway, I wasn't very impressed. It goes without saying that the Germans also speak English, because at the time these types of films were mainly made for the American home market. Hildegard Knef (“Neff” according to the credits) has no more than a very modest supporting role.

Too bad about the English, but apart from that it is just a more than good film, the motives of the boy are also strongly expressed and he plays his role very well.

It is very telling that the false traitor stands out above everyone in terms of standards and values, including the Americans.
