Second Best plot
Graham is a middle-aged single man and postmaster of a small Welsh town. Graham still lives in the family home, where he cares for his ailing father. All his former girlfriends are now married, but his desire for a son has remained intact. He decides to adopt a child and in this way comes into contact with ten-year-old Jimmy, who lives in an orphanage. The boy, whose mother committed suicide years before, is mildly disturbed and suffers from self-directed tantrums. The absence of his father, who is in prison and for whom Jimmy cherishes an immense admiration, is perhaps not strange. Graham begins a long and difficult road to earn Jimmy's trust.
