Power of the Press plot
"He feels the power of a woman! They feel the power of a fist!"
John Cleveland Carter is the publisher of a former major New York newspaper who discovers too late that its editor Howard Rankin is undermining his newspaper by turning it into a tabloid newspaper. But before he can take any action against Rankin, Carter is shot by an accomplice of Rankin's. Before he dies, Carter manages to hand over his majority stake in the publishing house to his biggest critic, local journalist Ulysses Bradford. Bradford is persuaded by Carter's assistant Edwina Stephens to try to take control of the newspaper from the scheming Rankin. Meanwhile, Rankin tries to blame a former newspaper employee for Carter's murder.
