"Sometimes Death has No Reason"
Jennifer, happily married and mother, gets her hands on compromising photos of her husband with the neighbor. To process the shock, she takes a bath and falls asleep. When she wakes up she finds herself naked on the floor of her house, which is all covered with body parts. A masked man wants to lead Jennifer on the right path to the "white light" with a willful philosophy. She has to endure terrible images and a lot of psychological and physical torture.

First Ittenbach film I've seen. No Reason looks quite campy and cheap at first, but it still tries to be quite interesting here and there and is also quite gross. The story is ultimately quite surprising. In any case, No Reason is limitless in terms of grossness. Jennifer's nightmares are also wonderfully bizarre and sometimes I was reminded a bit of Hellraiser. After all the bloodshed and raunchiness, the film moves towards an action film.
As far as I'm concerned, it's a successful bizarre film. That soundtrack for those endless opening credits and closing credits was really annoying. Otherwise quite a reasonable snack.

I read a film by Olaf Ittenbach and one of his better ones here and there. Um...
The film is an incoherent mix of bizarre and amateurish scenes that take place in drab and soulless settings. With remarkably little contrast in the images, which also look pale in color. The presentation is not very appetizing.
Even the extremely colored scenes, which serve as a model for the various stages of a tour through the psychological hell of the female main character, are 'colourless' and leave a grimy impression. The result is a film with a consistently dirty atmosphere. That worked out well.
The film is a depressing road trip of a sick mind, who often walks through the film naked and in declining stages of fadedness. The leading actress is called Irene Holzfurtner. Nice name, but unfortunately the lady hiding behind it is not very attractive. However, you are stuck with this unsavory lunatic for 74 minutes.
The tour de force that takes place in the confused head and dark soul of Irene is nice in itself, but as mentioned, it is very amateurishly developed. The narrative conclusion of the film is successful. It is strange and unpredictable and in passing it also covers the outstanding questions that were still there. Questions that didn't interest me at all.
It's that the film has some good gore on offer. The dirt looks genuinely dirty and makes it somewhat watchable, because it's not very good at all.
I didn't really click with it.

Ittenbach takes a more serious approach here. With actually a story, and an actual actress instead of his wife playing the leading role. But fear not, it's still a bloody mess, and the story also involves a woman who sees and experiences all kinds of misery in order to be mentally cleansed. At least according to some kind of guy in a fetish Cthulhu suit, who turns out to be another side of Jennifer's psyche, who has gone on a murderous rampage herself.
It won't come as a surprise, but splatter, gore, blood and fx are what this film is all about. And that's just done well, with a lot of filth and everything is still made with quite a professional touch. It starts quietly with a run-up of about 25 minutes during which I wondered a bit whether I was looking at an Ittenbach at all. But after that it goes well. In part two, Jennifer undergoes a lot of surreal misery in a number of phases, and as the final piece shows, this happens in her head, after she has murdered a number of people, including her child. We see the latter extensively. and bloody in the final part, although the emphasis is less on extensive gore, but more on brutal violence in a kind of action setting when Jennifer turns out to be a sadistic, violent and murderous junkie.
Ultimately the story does fall into place, although it takes a while after the nightmarish surreal middle section. But this isn't really my thing. The gore is good, and the fact that at least a decent story is told in a capably way makes it very watchable beyond that. But it's not really very interesting for me, other than being occasionally impressed by the gore shown.
