A group of students interviews hunters about the bear hunt. All hunters are talking about a mysterious man in a camper who they believe is a poacher. The students chase this poacher and when they confront him he tells them that he is hunting Trolls...

Normally I'm not a fan of the found-footage genre, but I still found this Norwegian film very entertaining. This is because a number of defects are immediately removed. Once in a while you see something real in the image instead of only seeing some guns and shocked faces. It is a found footage, but the film does not look cheap at all because it is clear that a lot of money and effort went into the production design and the special effects. In addition, it is all fairly decently filmed. Which also makes sense because it's not realistic that a film student would only film blurry jerky junk.

One last thing that really helps the film is the beautiful Norwegian setting. Even if nothing happened, there would still be a lot to see. Many found footage films don't have that because they are set in an isolated location (which gets boring very quickly).

Although the film tries to suggest that it really happened, there is also quite a bit of humor in the film (the ending for example). All in all, it was a very entertaining movie and I also liked the imaginative play of the troll myth. For example, that power pylons are actually fences to stop mountain trolls from leaving the mountains. All very nice idea.

A revision that did a lot of good.

The atmosphere of the film grabbed me a lot more this time. Norway is and remains a beautiful country, so an ideal setting for a film like this. The fact that since then I have also driven around Norway and felt a lot 'familiar', may also have something to do with it. But Trolljegeren feels nice and natural in everything, the film doesn't feel Hollywood. Such a Hans as the main character works excellently, such a mysterious guy who takes a quick look after a collision with a troll or fills in forms in a woolen vest in a road restaurant; it's the little things that make sense. There is also a lot of humor hidden in it. The film is far from a shambles, but has plenty of small dry-comedy moments, especially when you see how seriously the characters take the phenomenon and talk about it; like it's the most normal thing in the world.

Trolling is therefore at the very least strong if it starts to feel too put down. That Polish guy was giving me a little too much of a comedy show. In addition, they try to make the camera work feel very sincere, until the main characters are trapped in the cave and we invariably see a shot of the nervous cameraman filming himself. The film suddenly feels too edited there. The documentary makers themselves are not such fascinating characters, but that is doubly compensated by the main character Hans. Hilarious moment when he has to approach a troll in his knight suit and grumbles that this is the least fun part of the job. The effects are also very nice. Not everything is completely convincing, but sometimes it's the simple things that are most effective, like some moving trees and some flashes of light. And around the climax some cool things happen, especially the moment when one rides under that huge troll and those big legs almost crush the car is without a doubt impressive.

4 stars.

Quite a nice film that creates a bit of the same effects as The Blair Witch Project (1999) which also involves a kind of hunt or search for a mystery by young people with a hand held camera.

As silly as it may sound, the director manages to keep the mystery and legend alive by confusing fiction and reality. The film comes across believable within the context and you are really in the film. The area also does a lot with the vast forests and waterfalls.

The trolls looked pretty good too. Their sounds were also quite good. Actually entertained with it, nice!
