"They had one enemy even more deadly than the Apaches... each other!"
Lorn Warfield (Glenn Ford) has to go into hiding for a while after a shooting. When he returns 3 years later, he finds that his farm has been destroyed and his wife and two daughters have disappeared. He hears that they have been kidnapped by the Apaches and neighbor Owen Forbes (Arthur Kennedy) wants to help him find and free them. Owen, who has cared for Lorn's wife during his absence, turns out to have done something too intimately and that causes Lorn the necessary tension during the search, but he holds back until they are free. Then it comes to the obligatory final battle of both rivals.
