Wagahai wa Neko de Aru plot

A poor teacher's cat observes the fortunes of his owner and his neighbors. The cat watches the man get into lazy, deliciously pointless debates with his friends and how they gossip about acquaintances. How a thief steals sweet potatoes. The cat purrs contentedly or darts out of sight in fear when someone tries to sell him a staircase. “They seem to be chatting carefree,” the cat thinks as he looks at the human. “But, when you knock on their heart, they sound sad.” The cat does not judge, all it does is observe a person and his environment.
