Stake Land plot

"The Most Dangerous Thing Is To Be Alive."

Martin was a normal teenager until the country collapsed due to economic and political disasters. From the ashes of that battlefield arose a reign of vampires that swept through the deserted towns and cities. Martin's family was massacred and now he has to rely on Mister, a shaggy vampire hunter, who will take him to a safe area. He teaches him to hunt and survive. Together they discover that the remaining population can be just as bloodthirsty as the vampires. Armed with a trunk full of stakes and the will to live, they make their way through the cities, recruiting new vampire hunters wherever they can.

In a post-apocalyptic America, a vampire hunter [Nick Damici], his newest ward Martin [Connor Paolo], the heavily pregnant Belle [Danielle Harris] and a traumatized nun [Kelly McGillis] try to make it to the Canadian border in hopes of getting there safely. to be. There's nothing original about the story and characterization in this horror film, even though Jeff Grace's moody score might suggest that this is more than average depth. However, there is very little to notice, which means that connoisseurs of the post-apocalyptic melancholy film genre will not get excited about this, even if it is - certainly given the limited budget - a competently made horror drama.

Fine.

Stake Land does things a little differently compared to other genre films. Now, vampires aren't my favorite kind of threat in horror movies either, so I was positively surprised by Mickle's approach. A slower, but slightly more original approach to the genre.

Although I have to say that this film seems to last longer than it actually is. I would really bet that I just saw a movie that lasts 115 minutes instead of 98. There is a rather long-winded feeling which does not help the tension and development. Especially the beginning is a bit tough to get through.

Visually it is absolutely worth it. The world looks nice and gray and the right atmosphere is present. The soundtrack may not always be appropriate, but the look definitely is. The acting isn't that strong, especially because Mickle doesn't succeed in creating really interesting characters, but it's not disturbing at all.

The action is sparse and so is the bloodshed, making this more of a gritty drama movie with some dystopian influences. The horror is there, and there are some loud, gory scenes, but horror is by no means the main focus of this film. The development of the characters and the story, but they could have been a bit stronger.

I also regret to say that I found the last 10 minutes, where the story takes a different direction, more engaging than what came before. Still, this film is never really boring, but it could have been a bit more tempo. As a whole it is well directed and touches the right positives, but still feels a bit slow and incomplete. Too bad, but together enough for a sufficient.

Amusing vampire film that gave me a bit of the nice vibe of The Walking Dead. At first I thought they were zombies but they are called vampires. It's what an atypical vampire movie. Because it leans more towards the zombie genre, the film also suits me better. Not really time for romances. The action is good, it's a cool road movie. Actors were unknown to me, just like the director, but it has become a very decent film. I'm even a little surprised that it didn't get a sequel.
