Murphy's War plot
"World War Two was just ending. World War Murphy is about to begin."
Murphy is the sole survivor of his crew, who were killed by a German submarine in the closing days of World War II. He washes up on a forgotten island and begins planning revenge attacks. He wants to sink the submarine that has surfaced in some way. He begins with a valiant effort, aided by Louie, the administrator of the island's government.

Murphy's Private War. With a brutal, raw opening. It's not the only time that terms like that come to mind. There is always some energy in the film between those moments. O'Toole and Noiret form a smooth duo, the stiff little sister doesn't overdo it and Yates will undoubtedly have been delighted with the seaplane, because that roaring stunt flying just doesn't stop. Nice sound. And no zjermen, but just German, for those who find it important. Not a hero story, more something about revenge, obsession and madness. Kind of a wild movie, but certainly not bad.

DVD picked up in a thrift store for 50 euro cents.
This movie once in my possession on VHS, tape broken and never been able to watch,
until recently.

Good film in which a man is the only one to survive an attack by a German submarine towards the end of the war. A beautiful location and the scenes with the plane provide beautiful pictures. Despite the fact that the film has quite a bit of action and spectacle, the pace could have been a bit higher. Peter O'Toole is well cast as the somewhat insane survivor bent on revenge.
