A decent submarine film with an excellent Glenn Ford. Exciting enough, and considering the computer-free era, I thought the underwater scenes were very strong. Those depth charges remain a beautiful sight, although the reality was obviously less appealing. :')

Unfortunately, I found Diane Brewster's role merely irritating, but thankfully, she doesn't appear much. It also seems like Borgnine (although I think he's a pretty good actor) always plays the same role. He was often typecast.

This film has always remained somewhat of a lesser brother to Run Silent, Run Deep (1958) for me. Why? Perhaps it was simply something banal, like having seen it before, but also, Ernest Borgnine somehow fell into a kind of slapstick typecasting that made all his other roles unwatchable for me. Rather unfairly, I believe, because he's a truly serious and respectable actor.

Nevertheless, I just can't really like this film, and I can like RSRD despite all its flaws. So, that's why.
