Terribly mediocre and boring show this film. That more than an hour and a half of film is devoted to this ... man oh man. Shame! (Really) little happens. Characters are portrayed very substandard. Beatrix is portrayed as an old unsympathetic sourpuss. Maybe she is. I wonder if the Royal Family gave permission to make this film. No advertising in any case. If you are in doubt about going to see this film. Definitely don't! Skip it... it really is a waste of your time!

Couldn't get excited about it. It's always tricky to make a film of figures who are world famous in the Netherlands and therefore flawlessly etched in our memory, because you're automatically very busy looking at where the actors miss the mark. Only Hensema came close to the real JP, the rest remained a technically reasonable but in terms of looks failed imitation. Because of that lack of identification possibility you never really get into the already not special story. A thin story moreover that mainly radiated a level much about nothing. more amateur theater than a full-fledged feature film.

It is Prince's Day 2003 and Queen Beatrix [Carina Crutzen] is preparing for her traditional ride in the Golden Carriage and the Speech from the Throne. She has worked closely with Prime Minister Balkenende [Marcel Hensema] for three days on the text of the Speech from the Throne. When the Secretary General [Stefan de Walle] informs her that the text has been changed at the last minute, she rebels. She demands that Balkenende come and give her the text and explanation in person. It is Beatrix's first Prince's Day since the death of Prince Claus and the change concerns a subject that he considered very important. After a heated discussion with Balkenende, Beatrix must decide whether she will deliver the adjusted Speech from the Throne. During her deliberations, her thoughts wander to the past and especially the intimate conversations she had with Claus, also in the last phase of his life. Gijs Naber and Hadewych Minis (with a subtle accent) are fine as Willem-Alexander and Maxima in this fascinating royal family drama, but Crutzen is downright phenomenal in the title role.
