Another Year plot
Gerri is a psychological counselor, Tom is an engineer. They lead a settled life of cooking and gardening together. Nice quietly babbling film about an older couple Gerri and Tom whose lives are running smoothly. Their relationship is top notch, they do their work with great care and they also spend their days in a working garden and regularly invite friends and family over for dinner.
They themselves are not that interesting to follow. More interesting are the side characters where life goes a little less smoothly. If it is not love, then there is death or unbalanced health. It gets intriguing when things as they are evolve and the welcomed friends and acquaintances become outsiders of the family. A family usually closes ranks for the close family and Mary knew that.
Fine acting, great setting and nice dialogues, especially the down-to-earth dry Tom caught my eye. Would love to watch, although not much happens.

Mike Leigh, always (very) good but never as brilliant as in Naked, his unbeatable best film. Might miss a bit of a point, but that's really not that bad. Especially masterfully acted with many beautiful roles. The best part was actually the introduction between Mary and Tom's Brother. What a brilliantly acted and written scene that was.
Mike Leigh's strength is that his characters are so insanely good that you could write extensive biographies about them or make up a movie based on any other character based on the film.
