A Shine of Rainbows plot
"An abandoned child brings the colors of love into their lives."
Maire O'Donnell is a loving woman like few. Joyful, warm and caring, she adopts a young orphan named Thomas and brings him to his new home on remote Corrie Island, off the coast of Ireland. Maire shares the fun side of the island with Thomas and introduces him to whimsical village folklore, including the secret of the seals. She teaches him that everything you need is inside you if you really want to look. But Maire's stern husband Alec quietly disapproves of Thomas' shyness. He can't hide his disappointment that Thomas isn't the kind of kid he hoped for. His reluctance to get to know the boy better keeps Thomas from knowing whether he really belongs in this family. Yet Thomas begins to love the house, befriends the local children with whom he descends into a secret cave full of bats and together they also rescue a stranded baby seal.
