Quite a good drama.

Indeed very black and white, and of course the occupier comes out pretty bad. In that respect definitely an anti-war film. But the intensity of lead actor Mark Womack is touching and propels the film forward.

There is indeed quite a bit of cursing, but it seems to me that in this environment it is no more than normal. They are not choirboys.

Good.

Very strong anti-war film by Loach who also works very subtly and thoroughly. Everything is not crazy and with a lot of sound, but just in a kind of documentary-like life story. We follow a veteran Fergus who had to watch his friend being killed in Iraq. His return is of course also anything but rosy and he only makes a fuss with everyone, for the simple fact that everyone else is so secretive about the death of his friend. The film eventually becomes a psychological game when it turns out that there is more behind the death of his friend than he is presented with. And here too, just like the film Green Zone, you get that everything he had to fight for and what his friend died for, was a set up and that more and more dark secrets come to light. Obsession and being annoying is therefore necessary, it turns out again.

And indeed, the acting is fantastic and also quite realistic at many moments. Fergus who is crazy to get to the truth. And yes, war is ultimately all lies. This is once again evident from the film (for the umpteenth time)

The grey English atmosphere is also quite good. Simply a very good film.

4.0*
