Bakumatsu Taiyôden plot
At the end of the Edo period, the humble carpenter Saiheiji works in a geisha house to pay off the debts he has there. He strikes a deal with a rebellious samurai who wants to burn down the British consulate. In exchange for the building plans from the consulate, he wants the samurai to help him free a young girl from the brothel.
