Veldhospitaal Uruzgan plot
At Camp Holland in the Afghan province of Uruzgan, the wounded are received in the field hospital at the base camp. The diptych Veldhospitaal Uruzgan follows the Dutch medical personnel at Kamp Holland in providing acute medical assistance to soldiers and the local population. Surgeon Rob Leemans and his team are available 24 hours a day to operate on victims of war violence and roadside bombs. For medical personnel, working in the war zone means constantly making choices. They would love to help everyone, but they can't. An Afghan man in need of a foot amputation is refused entry at the gate. But a severely malnourished baby is allowed in. When Kamp Holland prepares for a major military action, the field hospital is emptied in haste. The beds must be empty for any military casualties.
