Handsome war thriller / drama that is beautifully photographed. The film brings a long-forgotten war to the fore. Certainly not inferior to Blood Diamond or Hotel Rwanda. 3.5*

Rewatched and unfortunately some tears at the end. It grabs you. I'm back to 4 stars. The music belongs to these kinds of countries and doesn't bother me at all. Thought it was funny that I saw advertising in Timor Bintang (Indonesian beer!!). The film is cleverly made with actors who are virtually unknown. It is clear in this film that journalists often go to the edge, sometimes on the edge or beyond. There was a weird transition in the movie. The moment Roger East says goodbye to José Ramos-Horta (after the swimming pool 'incident') we suddenly see Roger walking into a building and entering a room. That, in my opinion, should have taken some preparatory work.

Nevertheless, a very successful film that unfortunately (given the reactions here) has been watched very little. José Ramos-Horta is still alive after being shot in the stomach in 2008. He is now 65 years old.

Actor and the real Jose Ram...

Nice film, which just left me completely cold. It is all well put together and also goes back and forth clearly between the different stories, partly due to the flashbacks in 16mm (?) and with a jerky camera. The story being told is also clearly presented. But there is also nothing exciting in the film, a bit dozed altogether. I didn't really live with anything. Despite that, by the way, it's also never boring and it looks pretty easy. 3.0*.
