'That's how I go the hardest', says singer Tamar on stage. She finally manages to silence the noisy group of students from the Utrecht Delta College with an impressive high-pitched slash. Now the students of this black school in the Utrecht 'vogelaarwijk' Kanaleneiland do listen to the explanations about the workshops that Yo! Opera at their school. And a dozen of them decide to join in - because they want to learn to sing, have musical ambitions, or simply hope to be free a little earlier. Bijlsma follows the group during five workshops, in which the students slowly work towards a joint performance. This will be done by themselves, together with the three Yo! Opera, to be written and composed. They do not only singing exercises, but also, for example, exercises for posture. In the schoolyard and in their bedrooms they speak with some trepidation about the texts they write, or they interview each other in a corny mood about the project.
