Rotvos plot
The documentary Rotvos shows how complicated nature management in the Netherlands can be and what the role is of the proverbial cunning fox. Filmmakers Tijs Tinbergen and Jan Musch follow the investigation into the 'bad fox' in the groatswolf reserve in Limburg. The foxes are caught with snares and clamps and then released with a transmitter, so that one can gain insight into their territory and foraging behaviour. A similar study has been set up in Waterland, where the fox is said to threaten the protected meadow birds. Through casual conversations, the viewer gets a picture of developments in Dutch nature and nature management, such as the abolition of fox hunting in 2006. Sober records the CCTV footage of gnawed prey, the autopsy of a mysteriously dead fox, and the bringing back of a nest of six to two cubs by people who obviously love nature.
