This film is, to my taste, a bit of an odd duck in the Preston Sturges family, in that it feels much more serious overall than the farces I'm used to from Sturges. I think that's mainly because, in my opinion, Rex Harrison, usually a fine actor, isn't well-suited for screwball comedies like this. The Buster Keaton-esque antics required of him in this film don't suit him very well. Rudy Vallee (now playing his brother-in-law) would have been much better suited in that role, in my opinion.
Moreover, Sturges occasionally goes overboard with some rather ridiculous developments, or even repetitive, such as when he falls through the chair twice. On the other hand, the beautiful Linda Darnell and the phlegmatic Barbara Lawrence liven up the film enough to still earn a passing grade.
I would recommend the 1984 remake with Dudley Moore to everyone.

Actually the film is quite boring, until he wants to put his plans in his head into action and nothing goes the way he had in mind, the chair he falls through, the telephone, the razor he cuts himself on, the take that is recorded wrong, that scene is the high point in terms of slaptick.

The way he behaves it seems as if he wants to imitate Louis de Funes or could it be the other way around that Louis has perfected his hot-headed character.
