The Man Who Wouldn't Die plot

"An Empty Grave... A Cunning, Gunning Ghost... And Michael Shane!"

In the middle of the night, Dudley Wolff, his secretary Alfred Dunning and his doctor Haggard bury a body in the Wolffs family cemetery. Dudley's daughter Catherine ("Cathy") unexpectedly arrives at the home of the Wolffs. She tells her stepmother Anne Wolff that she just married Roger Blake and that he is coming to stay soon. During the night, Cathy is awakened by a mysterious assailant, who fires a shot at her, but her parents tell her she was only dreaming. The next day, Cathy goes to the family cemetery and finds that the new grave is empty. A frightened Cathy contacts private detective Mike Shayne. Since her father doesn't like private detectives, Cathy introduces him as her husband. That evening Shayne hears a gunshot and finds that the doctor Haggard has been killed. During the interrogation of the family by the police, the lights go out and shots are fired from outside again.
