"Between the wind and the lion is the woman. For her, half the world may go to war."

In 1904, Morocco is the source of conflict between Germany, France and the British Empire, all of whom are trying to gain a sphere of influence in the country. During a robbery by a group of Moroccan robbers, American woman Eden Pedecaris and her children, William and Jennifer, are kidnapped and Sir Joshua Smith, a British friend of hers, is murdered. The leader of the robbers, Mulay Achmed Mohammed el-Raisuli, is demanding an outrageous ransom in order to provoke an international incident, embarrass the Sultan and spark a civil war. Soon, however, he feels something for her and they start dating.

As a fan of Sean Connery, a film with him will always have an edge. Even though he is a Moroccan sultan, which is strange with a Scottish accent. The Wind and the Lion is somewhat similar to Lawrence of Arabia, but the story refers to true events. A bit romanticized, yes. Pedecaris is a woman here, while the real Pedecaris was a man.

I already referred to Lawrence of Arabia, although the atmosphere is more in keeping with The Man Who Would Be King and perhaps also the films of Akira Kurosawa. I assume that they have stayed close to the facts and sometimes you wonder where the story actually wants to go. Historically speaking, it is interesting to see and the setting and battles also make it a good adventure film. The film has apparently been somewhat forgotten, although it was a success in its time. The success of Jaws that year apparently took away much of the attention.

Fans of Connery or Lawrence of Arabia will enjoy this. I definitely thought it was worth it. Connery is charismatic enough to play the role of sultan, while Bergen is a lot less so.

Some history behind this adventure film that, as usual, has a dose of romance.

Even as a Berbian chef, Sean Connery cannot express his British flair with a dash of humor. Quite charming and beautiful Candice Bergen thought so too.

That and several scenes - especially towards the end - make it all less serious and therefore more relaxing and... I didn't find this film that dated.

Oscar nomination for sound and music. Justifiably.

And once again the title of the immense list of youth sentiments, probably once seen with the whole family on Saturday evening, like so many at the time. Did I know much about it? No actually not. Only the synopsis and the title seemed familiar, but along the way a number of scenes came along that seemed very familiar to me.

The story may be well known about the rogue and Sultan Razuli who kidnapped an American lady with her two children and thus consciously or unconsciously crossed swords with America and President Roosevelt in particular. The film then develops into a kind of adventure film where at first there are clashes between the spirited Eden and the proud Sultan, but then chemistry gradually develops between the two. The locations are nice, the nature is beautiful, and of course a film of this genre from the 70s revolves around a certain mix of a bit of spectacle, a bit of romance, a bit of action, and a bit of humor, and it actually flies sometimes heads turn around.

Of course, the whole thing cannot really be taken seriously, if only because of the Moroccan Sultan with his Scottish accent. Anyway, that also gives the whole thing a certain charm, something that Mrs. Pedecaris will undoubtedly join us. Finally, I would like to mention the strong soundtrack, although the whole thing is far from great, but it is certainly still sufficient. I therefore agree with the voting average of three stars, and conclude with a compliment about the film poster that accompanies the page. At that time they still managed to make beautiful movie posters.
