The Quiet Gun plot
Doug Sadler, a feared gunner, drives into a small town and provokes Sheriff Carl Brandon by harassing a mentally retarded man. Brandon is further tested by a city attorney who announces that the city council is accusing rancher Ralph Carpenter of violating morality for having an affair with a Native American woman. Brandon, who is in love with the rancher's wife, realizes something is wrong with the two events, but he is unable to contain the riot in the city. Ultimately, he must take on the entire town to enforce the law he represents and protect the town from itself.
