Herman Brood, a Star like Me plot
The documentary 'Herman Brood, a star like me' uses countless archive images and sound recordings to unravel Herman Brood's mythical and carefully cultivated image of rock 'n roll junkie and explore the relatively unknown period between 1964 and 1978, in which Brood emerged from a 17 year-old art student to a 31-year-old pop idol. Countless interviews, television recordings and old family films and photos provide insight into the complex and elusive person Brood and the construction of his image as a pet junkie. He was both a lone outsider and an attention grabber, an endearingly talented mother's child and an unscrupulous junkie fleeing his responsibilities. Everyone knows him, but hardly anyone really knows him.
