American journalist Richard Ashley arrives in a country in the Balkans to investigate the dubious contacts of the dictator 'Duke of Orgagna'. Richard soon becomes enthusiastic about the country and has difficulty leaving this country with his collected information, when it turns out that Orgagna's wife Cosima has fallen in love with him. Orgagna finds out and plans to poison Richard.
