God Zij met Ons Suriname plot
Story about the residents of the retirement home Huize Margriet on the Kwattaweg in Paramaribo. When many of their contemporaries left for the Netherlands around independence in 1975, they chose to stay in their native country. They were part of the upper class at the time; officials, lawyers, teachers and widows of dignitaries. After the depreciation of money in the 1990s, they can only just survive on their good pension at the time and they have often become dependent on their children in the Netherlands. Looking at the images of the celebration of independence, the start of the criminal trial and the commemoration of the 8 December murders, they tell about the Suriname of yesteryear and their experiences during the turbulent history of the young independence of Suriname for 35 years.
