In any case, a decent home-grown television film with a recognizable story and solid acting by Anneke Blok (nicely exaggerated) and Gaite Jansen, who, just like in Lover of Loser, seemingly effortlessly steals the show.

Clichés are often seen as negative, but in this film they work out well.

The art of a contemporary fairy tale is to let clichés have a happy ending with the necessary tension in between.

The cliché of a boy from a "poor" background falling in love with a "rich" girl is desirable in this case.

The boy belongs to an ethnic minority and the girl to an indigenous upper class.

They both look nice too.

For this reason, this film will probably attract the attention of both proponents and opponents of multicultural society.

This is only good.

I think this film fits into this era.

My appreciation for the film is therefore much higher than that of most viewers.

Drama film with socially critical content, taken in hand by director Joram Lürsen. Especially the concept of prejudice is tackled and criticized here, but that is not made much easier for the viewer by making Mamoun Elyounoussi a rather incomprehensible and unsympathetic figure. Half of the film is spent on his character who gets himself deeper and deeper into trouble, until there is no way back. That is not very amusing or enjoyable for the viewer in this kind of film, but Elyounoussi plays extremely strong and it all does not last too long. Lürsen also makes it a fascinating spectacle with enough development, content and pace. Due to a lack of visual finish and an irritating role by Anneke Blok, Coach does not get a passing grade, but it is certainly doable for Dutch cinema.
