Lost in translation.

It's not entirely clear to me what director Jean Valère's intention was with this film, this bland tale of a temporary love triangle devoid of any chemistry, attraction, or anything even remotely close to polite interest. Apparently, I'm not the only one who couldn't figure it out, because the film seems completely forgotten—quite remarkable considering Jean Seberg plays the lead role, and so soon after À Bout de Souffle that she hadn't even had a haircut in between. Here on this site, 65 years after the fact, I'm allowed to write the first comment; the Wikipedia article (also in French) is a stub, and IMDB has a grand total of three user reviews, all so glowing that I can't even process a single word.

The story also goes nowhere – the three corners of that triangle are quite unsympathetic, and even Seberg doesn't evoke a desire for a Hollywood-esque happy ending. Perhaps one of those three IMDB entries is on the right track, and it's simply that the dialogue is an exercise in social coldness. My French isn't that good, though, and in this case, I'm mainly dealing with a huge amount of je m'en fou.
