New York reporter Bob MacAvoy is persuaded by his pregnant wife Jane to take over a bankrupt weekly newspaper in Eden, California. However, they run into problems with the manners in the countryside and the eccentric citizens of Eden. Despite this stressful situation, Bob and Jane have to try to make enough sales.
