Fei Hu: The Story of the Flying Tigers plot
Supported by archival footage, the documentary explores the history of the American Volunteer Group (AVG), better known as the 'Flying Tigers', led by the unruly General CL Chennault. The AVG was established in 1941 under the auspices of President Roosevelt, even before the United States entered World War II, to assist the Chinese Kuomintang government in their fight against the Japanese invasion force. The AVG consisted of volunteers (pilots, aircraft mechanics, nurses and support staff), who traveled to China with false passports, some of whom are interviewed in this documentary. In the airspace of China and Burma there was very successful fighting with Curtiss P-40 'Warhawk' fighters. Shark heads were painted on the noses of the Warhawks, called 'Fei Hu' (shark teeth) by the locals. The AVG was integrated into the '14th Air Force' in July 1942.
