I follow the trend here. Very strange film where I had no idea where the film wanted to go. What is that thing? Where does it come from? What is its purpose? The fact is that you can build the entire film without that extra part, in fact: if you cut it out, the film would still stand, in my opinion, because the rest of the plot is decent and actually stands on its own.

Not to be compared with Cowboys & Aliens (2011) where two seemingly incompatible themes were reconciled. There the mix was just part of the whole. In this film I saw no coherence between the two themes at all.

It was entertaining and I was looking forward to the end, but I went home quite disappointed. It does indeed linger a bit, but with a negative connotation. With a bit more balls this might have come into its own. Too bad...

This melting pot of genres results in a strange film, which goes in all directions and ultimately lands nowhere. The sum of the things barely rises above average and leaves far too many questions unanswered. A vague film.

A comparison with Possession is easily made in this lovecraftian film where it is difficult to say anything without giving away the entire film. The design, the way it is shot including the aspect ratio, the direction and the calm and steady pacing and the plot, all very nice and good. What I could not do so much with, is the family drama around it, which is quite the focus and which is not always interesting to follow. That of The Untamed a somewhat long sit, because I could not always keep my attention completely.
