"The Book That Thrilled Millions!"

Mary Rafferty (Greer Garson) comes from a poor family. Nearly the entire family works at the Pittsburgh steel mill. When she goes to the wealthy Scott family (who own the steel mill) as a maid, her family resists. Mary immediately catches the attention of the handsome Paul Scott, but their relationship is disrupted by Paul's engagement to a lady and the steel mill workers' strike.

strong drama about the romance between a steelworker's daughter who has ended up in a wheelchair due to his work, and a son of the factory owner.

the romance is not welcomed by everyone, certainly not the father in the wheelchair because he has harbored a grudge for years because he holds his boss responsible for his disability. When the daughter also starts working as a helper at the house of the rich steel owner and becomes very popular there over time, this creates even more bad blood for her father.

Good cast with good acting, especially from Greer Garson who plays the daughter, Peck plays himself again as we have seen him so often, solid and convincing.
