The first time I saw this movie about 2 years ago, it struck me as mediocre, a little bland, and reeling rather quickly. Now on a 2nd viewing I enjoyed it much more. It's a simple movie with no complicated plot. it is fantasy, complete fiction but somehow it makes sense again. That Viegeltje is played by a real girl and is not computer-animated, I think is quite clever. So it can be done without too many special effects. Unlike some here, I thought the roles of Viegeltjes foster parents were well portrayed. I think they are supposed to be from a simple and unworldly couple from the rural countryside and they show that convincingly. The fact that they tried to raise Viegeltje on their own, albeit somewhat unorthodox way (and they weren't obviously used to that as a childless couple at age), I thought was well done. It could have been a little slower for me, maybe a little more background with certain characters. It all went quite fast. But still enjoyed it very much.

Not a bad film... Only thought Elm didn't look very convincing, especially with the wings and the film was a bit long-winded at times...

Birdwatcher Warre [Huub Stapel] one day stumbles upon a bird (after all, it has wings) with many outward appearances of a human that seems to have fallen from a tree. Together with his wife Tine [Joke Tjalsma] he decides to take care of Viegeltje [Kenadie Jourdin]. But then comes the moment when Viegeltje (literally) starts to spread her own wings and that is the starting point for this extremely charming, imaginative story full of witty, intelligent dialogues that profits enormously from the excellent work of Stapel and the sublime Tjalsma. An excellent film for the whole family.
