Nice film about a man who has to take care of his two sons alone after his wife has died. A film about grieving and parenting that, despite these two subjects, manages to avoid sentiment. The first part is quite difficult, but when the eldest son makes his appearance, the story takes shape a little more.

It took a long time for the film to come out. The fact is not really new and the character drawing is not very precise either. The phenomenon of super-alert kids who, without faltering, traps adults while reasoning is also part of it. Had expected better overall.

“I run a pretty loose ship. Basically I've found that the more rules there are, the more crimes are created. So, fewer rules. Fewer, but bigger rules. No interrupting adults...”

Great film with a good balance between sentiment and genuine emotion. A bit cliché and predictable, but if the execution is this good I have no problem with that. The Australian setting helps too, and the acting by all the actors is excellent. There is enough drama in the film, but The Boys Are Back is mainly a positive story about a family of men who have to find a new balance after the death of their wife/mother.
