Ticks plot

"Something hungry is about to hatch."

What should have been a relaxing trip to the vast forests turns into a nightmare for six 'problem' teenagers from the big city. Steroids, used by marijuana growers, cause uncontrollable mutations in 'harmless' ticks. Their camp is infested with these beasts, who get under their skin and then begin their destructive work. To top it all off, two extremely aggressive marijuana growers also appear on the scene. Only then do the problems begin...

Problem youth and giant ticks

Don't watch it after dinner... really a dirty movie... bwekkes... Acting, direction and dialogues are crap and it's a bad B-movie on all levels. On the other hand, the movie is gross and gruesome enough to cause a few stomach upsets (keep a Rennie handy) and that's what you watch a movie like this on Halloween for. That was my last Halloween movie after Ghost Story and Tales of the Crypt and that was also the most disgusting of the three but not the movie that made the most impression.

PS: I don't understand the "obvious" resemblance between a tick and Alien from the above post at all...

Simplistic horror film about a group that is attacked by a herd of mutated ticks, but this is a concept that has clearly been delivered to the right address by director Tony Randel. His design is namely nicely clumsy and unrestrained, which means that Ticks certainly manages to come a long way in the field of practical effects. In between, the cast members (including a young Seth Green) do their best and the fun regularly bursts from the screen. The budget will probably not have been all that large, but Randel still provides enough variety and spectacle. Certain side roads such as the rednecks are a bit annoying and the content is of course wafer-thin, but nevertheless the film offers a lot of horror fun if you like this kind of B-stuff.

A fairly entertaining, simple B-movie monster movie where the effects and the mutated giant monsters (ticks) look particularly good. There's plenty of gore, and thankfully the characters aren't annoying. Unfortunately, there's a lack of suspense, and the body count is low. The latter is particularly striking considering the location and the number of characters. 6/10
